Procedure FAQ's

What is facial plastic surgery?

Cosmetic facial plastic surgery is performed to enhance the appearance of facial features and structures. This medical field involves surgical procedures performed to help patients achieve an aesthetic goal. Popular facial plastic surgery procedures include:

  • Facelift
  • Mini-facelift
  • Cheek implants
  • Brow lift (forehead lift)
  • Upper and lower eyelid surgery
  • Lip augmentation

Why would someone need or want facial plastic surgery?

Both men and women have cosmetic or reconstructive facial plastic surgery for a range of personal reasons. A common reason for cosmetic facial surgery is to restore a more youthful appearance due to aging skin and tissue. Some people simply want to improve the appearance of their facial features or create a more pleasing harmony and balance in the facial features.

Reconstructive facial plastic surgery is performed to correct conditions present at birth, such as protruding ears or a cleft palate. It is also performed to treat conditions resulting from accidents or trauma, and to revise unsatisfactory results from a previous surgery.

Why come to us for cosmetic plastic surgery procedures of the face?

Surgical facial enhancement is a complex art and science that should only be entrusted to a knowledgeable plastic surgeon. Dr. Daniel Casper has extensive training and experience in facial plastic surgery. His precise incisions and unique closure techniques minimize scarring and reduce swelling and bruising for a quicker, more comfortable recovery.

The facial plastic surgeon you choose should have the technical skills and artistry to avoid results that look tight or unnatural. Dr. Casper uses advanced surgical techniques to reduce sagging, create fullness, and restore a more youthful appearance with beautiful, natural-looking results.

What are cheek implants?

We lose volume in the cheeks as we grow older. Weak, deflated cheeks can contribute to a tired, gaunt look and add years to the facial appearance. Cheek implants can restore lost volume in the cheeks or create fullness where it did not exist before.

Cheek implants have a proven record of safe and effective facial enhancement. Implants come in a range of shapes, sizes, and materials. Dr. Casper offers:

  • Malar implants: Placed directly on the cheekbone, this is the most common type of cheek implant.
  • Submalar implants: As the name implies, these implants are placed below the cheekbones to correct a hollow or gaunt appearance of the cheeks.
  • Combined implants: This type of cheek implant is used to augment both the cheeks and the midface region.

Cheek implant procedures are performed under general anesthesia or intravenous sedation. Dr. Casper makes an incision near the eye or inside the mouth (for virtually undetectable incision lines), creates a pocket, and inserts the implant. Most patients recover from this procedure within a few days.

What is a mini-facelift?

A mini-facelift is a facial rejuvenation procedure geared toward patients who do not require a full facelift to restore and rejuvenate facial appearance. It smooths fine lines and wrinkles and reduces minor sagging in the cheeks, jawline, and neck in a less invasive procedure.

Surgery is performed with local anesthesia and twilight sedation for a quicker recovery time. Incisions follow the natural curve of the ear for virtually invisible scarring. Through these incisions, tissues are tightened, and excess skin is removed, after which Dr. Casper closes the incisions with an exquisite suturing technique.

Patients only need one to two weeks to recover from a mini-facelift. Sutures are removed after one week. Minor swelling and bruising will gradually subside.

How is a facelift procedure performed?

A full facelift is a more extensive surgical procedure that produces more dramatic results than a mini-facelift. Dr. Casper custom-tailors a facelift procedure to each individual patient.

Traditional facelift surgery is performed under general anesthesia or IV sedation and takes three to four hours to complete. Incisions begin above the hairline at the temples and extend inside the edge of the ear and around the earlobe. Through these incisions, the skin is lifted, underlying tissues are tightened, and excess skin is removed.

Dr. Casper tightens the remaining skin to create a smoother, younger appearance and skillfully closes the incisions with tiny sutures. You can expect to experience some swelling and bruising after a full facelift. Most patients can return to normal daily activities in approximately 10 days after the procedure.

What is eyelid surgery and why consider it?

Eyelid surgery, technically known as blepharoplasty, is performed to correct sagging, puffiness, and wrinkles around the eyes and eyelids. Excess skin and fat deposits can develop in the upper and lower eyelids with aging. This can give the face a tired, heavy, older appearance.

For upper eyelid surgery, incisions are hidden in the crease of the upper eyelid. Lower eyelid surgery incisions are placed either inside the lower lids or outside along the lid margin. Through the incisions, Dr. Casper removes excess skin and fat, tightens muscles, and smooths the eyelid area to create a more refreshed, alert, youthful appearance.

What does a brow lift (forehead lift) do for the look of the face?

A browlift, also known as a forehead lift, is a popular surgery performed to restore a more youthful appearance to the upper face. This procedure lifts the brow and reduces forehead creases, furrows, and scowl lines and creases that have formed between the eyes.

The traditional brow lift involves an incision discreetly placed above the hairline, through which underlying muscles are tightened and excess fat and skin are removed. Most patients can return to their usual activities within seven to 10 days following brow lift surgery.

What are my options for lip augmentation?

Dr. Daniel Casper performs lip augmentation with the use of your body’s own natural fat. He removes fat cells from one area of the body and injects them into the lips to add volume and improve contours, with smooth, natural-looking results.

As an alternative treatment, Dr. Casper offers lip augmentation using injectable dermal fillers, such as Juvéderm and Restylane. Most patients require little to no recovery time after lip augmentation treatments. Fuller, plumper, more defined lips can make you look younger and more appealing and requires only a few minutes of your time to perform.
