Being one of the most popular facial implant procedures, a cheek implant is often performed for aesthetic or reconstructive reasons. Weak cheeks can sometimes make the face look tired and gaunt, contributing to an aged appearance. Cheek implants can improve the fullness in the cheeks to restore volume lost from aging or create fullness where it was not before. This operation can be performed alone or in combination with other procedures for optimal results.

Ideal Candidate

A Comprehensive, Personalized Approach

The ideal candidate for a cheek implant procedure is someone who is in good health and is suffering from a lack of facial symmetry. Patients should understand the expected outcome, knowing the procedure is designed to improve the individual’s own appearance—not make them look like someone else. Individuals who can most benefit from this procedure have lost volume in the cheeks or have little volume to begin with, and desire fuller, more youthful cheeks.

Implant Types

There are three different implant types to choose from:

Malar

This implant is placed directly on the cheekbone and is most common cheek implant procedure

Submalar

Unlike malar implants, submalar implants are placed below the cheekbones to correct a gaunt and hollow appearance

Combined

Like the name suggest, combined implants augment both the mid face and the cheekbones

Procedure

A Comprehensive, Personalized Approach

The procedure is usually performed under sedation or general anesthesia. The surgeon makes an incision near the eye or inside the mouth. Many patients opt for implantation through the mouth, as the incision lines are visibly undetectable. After the incision is made, a pocket is created and the implant is inserted. The procedure itself can be performed at our Los Angeles office and usually takes around an hour to complete.

Recovery

If performed by itself, recovery following cheek implant surgery will only take several days. If performed in conjunction with other procedures, recovery time may be longer. The area will be numb from the local anesthesia, but this is only temporary and will wear off. There will be some discomfort and this can be treated with oral pain medication. Any swelling or bruising should dissipate within a few days.
