Breast Revision Benefits

A breast revision surgery can address a number of problems you may be having with the results of a previous breast augmentation. These include:

  • Rupture or deflation of a breast implant
  • Infection around incision points
  • Implants that are not the desired size
  • The desire to remove the implants
  • A rippling appearance caused by the implant
  • Breast asymmetry caused by awkward placement or shifting of the implant
  • Scar tissue that has formed around the implant (capsular contracture) causing a hardened feeling in the breasts
  • The desire to switch between types of implants (saline to silicone / silicone to saline)
  • Implant removal for treatment of unrelated health problems, such as breast cancer

Dr. Casper will be happy to meet with you in an initial consultation to explain all aspects of breast revision surgery and answer your questions.

Breast Revision Procedure

The exact kind of breast revision surgery Dr. Casper performs will depend on your needs. Removal of a saline breast implant usually involves deflating the implant, then removing it. Dr. Casper will also remove any scar tissue from the area. If you require removal of a ruptured silicone breast implant, some of the surrounding involved tissue may need to be removed as well. If you are having the implants replaced, the new implants will typically be placed right after removal of the original implants. Dr. Casper will take extra care to make sure that the results meet your goals and look natural and beautiful.

Breast Revision Recovery

The recovery process for breast revision surgery will depend on the type of surgery you undergo; however, if you are having breast implant removal, recovery will typically involve some degree of bruising and swelling in the days following surgery. Pain and discomfort can be controlled with medication. Those who are undergoing implant replacement may need to wear a compression bra in the weeks after the procedure to facilitate healing. Patients should not engage in strenuous activities for at least six weeks after breast revision surgery, and should take special care to protect the breasts from harm. Many patients are able to return to normal daily routines within about a week after the procedure.
